Reports in England have claimed today that Arsenal have agreed a deal with Southampton for the transfer of Calum Chambers and now, Morgan Schneiderlin is the next target of Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal Captain Thomas Vermaelen has decided to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer and coach Arsene Wenger had wanted to replace the Belgian with young, promising defender. The 19-year-old Chambers is considered as the heir of John Terry in the heart of English defence and Wenger is a big admirer of this young talent.
English newspaper The Telegraph has claimed today that “Arsenal have stepped up their bid to sign Southampton teenager Calum Chambers and are increasingly confident they can land him. Southampton are reluctant to lose another player and are under no financial pressure to sell, having already cashed in on Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert. Dejan Lovren is also set to leave.”
Chambers has been used as a right-back by Southampton, but Arsenal boss Wenger feels that he could mature to play in the heart of defence. The signing of Chambers will see the change of faces in the backline of Arsenal as Bacary Sagna has already signed for Manchester City.
Arsenal were in the market to sign the replacement of Thomas Vermaelen before his departure and it now appears that they have got their man. Manchester United and FC Barcelona are interested in signing the Belgian international Vermaelen and Wenger wants to get maximum possible returns from the sale of his captain.
Meanwhile, Chambers is not the only Southampton player who is on the wish list of Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman is also interested in bringing his countryman Morgan Schneiderlin at the Emirates stadium.
However, Southampton management is unlikely to grant the sale of Schneiderlin as they have already lost the likes of Lallana, Ricky Lambert and Dejan Lovren. Despite this fact, The Guardian has claimed today that an offer of £27m or more could be enough to tempt the management of Southampton to sale Schneiderlin. Guardian report claims that: “Southampton will signal their determination to hold on to Morgan Schneiderlin by telling his suitors, who are headed by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, that he would cost them in excess of the £27m that Manchester United paid for Luke Shaw.”
Arsenal boss Arsenal Wenger is looking to add more depth to his midfield and sees Schneiderlin as the perfect candidate. Sami Khedira of Real Madrid was the preferred candidate of Wenger earlier but the Frenchman has now set his eyes on Schneiderlin. Wenger is expected to allow Arteta leave Emirates Stadium this summer if Arsenal really succeeds in signing Schneiderlin from Southampton.
