Arsene Wenger Clearifies Arsenal Target For The Rest Of The Season

Arsene Wenger has targeted wins from the remaining five matches of the Premier League
campaign in order to overcome Everton’s challenge and finish in the top four. After four
matches without a win, positivity returned to Arsenal after they reached the FA Cup final

following the semi-final win over Wigan Athletic on penalties. For long periods of normal
time, it looked like Arsenal would endure more frustration. However, the players
managed to pull themselves together and overcome a resilient Wigan team.
The win retains hopes of ending the trophy drought, as ‘favourites’ Arsenal will come up
against Hull City in the FA Cup final. However, Wenger has warned the players against
forgetting the main objective – reaching the top four. Ahead of the league match with
West Ham, he said to ESPN :

“We want to finish strong, we have a battle with
Everton and of course it's now down to consistency
in our final games. It [five victories] is the target.
Do you need it? Nobody knows, but the target is of
course to win every game.
"When you are in a semi-final and you win, it
releases a little bit of pressure on the team on that
front, but we want to bounce back in the Premier
League.”

Arsenal and the Top Four
Arsenal can provisionally get back into the top four with a win over West Ham, but
Everton will be able to reinstate the two-point advantage over the gunners if they win
against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
Arsenal are aware that finishing in the top four is out of their hands, but Wenger says
that the best possible way to unsettle Everton is by winning all their matches from now
till the end of the season. Everton have tough matches against the likes of Manchester
United and Manchester City at home, and Arsenal will be hoping for the blues to drop
points from these big matches.
After being a regular feature of Arsenal in the first half of the season, Olivier Giroud has
been side-lined more often than not in the last few weeks. This has started rumours
that he would be sold in the summer, but Wenger confirmed that the Frenchman still
remains a key part of Arsenal’s plans for the future. He continued:
"He has a fantastic spirit; Olivier Giroud is a fantastic team player. He has gone through
a little bit more of a difficult period, but that happens to any striker.”
