DI MARIA INSPIRES ARGENTINA

Angel Di Maria: A goal and three assists in Argentina victory

A review of Wednesday's international friendlies as Angel di Maria inspired Argentina to a 4-2 victory over Germany.

Less than two months since Germany won the trophy in Brazil, new Manchester United midfielder Di Maria scored one and set up three.
Germany did pick just four players who started back in July, but regardless, they would have expected to do better than watch Di Maria lay on goals for Sergio Aguero, Erik Lamela and Federico Fernandez before scoring himself.
Andre Schurrle pulled one back and Fernandez put through his own goal, but there would be no comeback.
England were also back in action after the World Cup - their experience a dismal one in South America - and there was not much more to cheer as they scraped past Norway 1-0 thanks to a penalty from new captain Wayne Rooney.
Another side to have experienced a tricky World Cup, Russia, beat Azerbaijan4-0.
Alexander Kerzhakov scored twice inside the opening 12 minutes to set them up, with Sergei Ignashevich and Vladimir Granat adding further gloss.
Roman Bezus scored the only goal as Ukraine beat Moldova 1-0, while Ozan Tufan scored a last-gasp winner for Turkey in Denmark.
Daniel Agger - back at Brondby after leaving Liverpool - gave Denmark the lead from the spot (35), but Olcay Sahan (54) and Tufan turned things around.
Alejandro Bedoya's goal was the only one as the United States won 1-0 in theCzech Republic, while the Republic of Ireland beat Oman 2-0 thanks to goals from Kevin Doyle and Alex Pearce.
