Danny Welbeck is looking for a move out of Manchester United despite the appointment of Louis van Gaal as manager, Guardian reports.
The Englishman has been frustrated at being played on the wings rather than as a striker, and is considering leaving the 13-time Premier League champions.
Welbeck considers last season to be his “unhappiest season, without a doubt.”
“I’d like to play centrally,” he said. “I’ve been playing on the left for a while and it’s got to the time when I want to stake a place up front.”
Welbeck has been criticized by the media in regards to his low number of goals, but he pointed out that it was considered as “a bonus” to score when playing out wide.
“It depends what formation we are playing,” Welbeck continued.
“On the left of a four-man midfield there are a lot more defensive duties so you can’t find the time to keep attacking. But if you’re on the left of a 4-3-3, I find that position really good. I can play in any formation but, if I play on the left, I’d rather play there if there are three in midfield.”
His chances of leading the United line is however extremely unlikely, with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie supplying the competition – not the mention the Red Devil’s interest in bringing Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
The 23-year-old’s agents have already warned the Old Trafford hierarchy that Welbeck is willing to leave the club, with Tottenham Hotspur monitoring the situation.
Welbeck will be looking to impress in this summer’s World Cup as part of the England squad.
